Article 39 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child: 'Children who have fallen victim to traumatic events should receive special help so they can feel safe again.'
‘They’re not a burden to us. They’re people with a heart and a soul and they all have their talents.’ These words are spoken by twelve-year-old Letizia about the refugees who arrive on her island Sicily by boat on an almost daily basis. Some of them are teenagers travelling alone. Together with her parents, Letizia gives them shelter. The boys see Letizia as their little sister and tell her remarkable stories. Who, for instance, is Mohammed from Mali who is so keen on all things pink? Letizia calls on us to make friendships with refugees.
